The second compound in QR Pharma's pipeline is BNC. BNC is a butyrylcholinesterase inhibitor which activity predicts that the compound may be more efficacious in severe and advanced AD, because it increases acetylcholine once acetylcholinesterase inhibitors stop working. All preclinical work for BNC, such as efficacy in tissue culture cells, mice and old rats as well as toxicology, PK and PD in dogs, rats and mice, has been completed. There is an active IND under which the company is pursuing phase I clinical development in collaboration with the clinical branch of the NIA/NIH.
BNC reduces the number of errors and the run time in very old, 24 month rats.
Mean errors and run time were significantly reduced (*p<0.05) by BChE inhibition over 4 blolcks of trials measured in the morning and afternoon of 2 concsecutive days BNC, (-)bisnorcymserine.
